In my opinion, the problem with the design sprint is that you need to know the problem to solve before you start the sprint. The deep understanding of the problem is left out, which is the most important part. And often this part is more time consuming.
I have come across quite many people who invite a bunch of colleagues to a design sprint without knowing what the problem is. This is a call for failure in most cases.
In my opinion the power of the design sprint is ideating on a known problem.
